Now I know exactly what they mean when

they say "She has a porcelain like complexion!"

I have been working on this doll for a while, tending to her now and then when I get a free moment, here and there.

It's funny but the medium I use dictates the way in which I paint. If I am using watercolors... it's very light, airy and delicate, with acrylics, its bloppy, sloppy and smooshy and when I paint on porcelain I tend to be very heavy handed. But I'm happy with the way she looks!

She is going to be a lady doll, dressed in fashionable period garb from the 1900's, a little horse hair stuffed bustle, black stockings that sport tiny embroidered white flowers on them that will sit just above her knees, a wasp waisted silk gown and tiny handmade leather shoes.

An antique leather opera length glove was used to create

a beautiful, shapely soft body for her that will rival her faint complexion!

Old cotton stuffing to plumpen her bum,

and just a few stitches on the toes to seal her all up!

There, languid, long and lovely!

Two pretty, dainty porcelain hands with teensy painted accents to create a slight hint of realism.

I do love a fancy girl with a far away look in her eyes, don't you!

I can't seem to make up her mind... shall she be a dusky hued Brunette?

I think this little mohair wig makes her look very sophisticated,

but she might be need'n to wear

a pair of glasses with this choice!

Lets see...

Maybe an innocent, sugar sweet angel haired blonde?

See how much it changes her personality.

Or she could even be...

a strawberry fiery Redhead!

Which color to you think suits her personality best?

Well either way, one day very soon she will be a prim and proper lady and I will bring her back and share the finished doll with you.

And now, in the Spirit of the Holiday Season

and in salute and tribute to all of you Creative Women out there...

I'm having a Giveaway! Just leave a comment telling me which color hair you like best, and on the 19th of December I will announce the winner of my "Creative Woman" print, it is on a 9" x 12" canvas and finished out in delicate, blue clouds of smooshy dabs of acrylic paint! And just in case you are interested I do have 2 of these available in my Etsy Shop, see you soon!

I don't know why but I feel the auburn suits her best! Have a great time working on this doll and preparing for Christmas! Hugs LiLi
I believe I like the dark wig at the beginning of the story. Or maybe it the style that I prefer.I can't wait to see what you do with her. I have a "Smiling Bru" that I made 10 years ago and have never finished. Perhaps you will inspire me to finish Odette. :)
The brunette makes her lovely blue eyes pop, but the blonde gives her a very authentic antique look. I cannot decide between the two. Looking forward to the big reveal. She is beautiful.
I like the brown.. but I think pink would suit too! :)
I love the red hair! She has just a touch of impishness to her and the red will be like a hint of that... make sense? lol!
Beautiful!

I really like the first choice, but would have loved to see the haircolors with her gown fabric draped as well. Inspiring post!
Well,
Since you asked, and since my own dd is a "fiery redhead", that's my choice.
No matter the color she's sure to be lovely....
RED for sure ! Gotta luv a fiery red head...she is a beauty no matter what hair colour.
Hugs

I thought the brunette was lovely myself, but that might be because I recently went back to my own natural brunette after nearly 3 years of coloring my hair. Funny, it turns out I've gotten some gray hairs in the interim! Hopefully I shall acquire an air of gravitas and start to feel like a grown-up. At any rate, I would add that all 3 colors worked in one way or another . . . I just liked the brunette.
She is breathtaking...can't wait to see what you choose. I do like the redhead look! And that bonnet is amazing...just perfect.
Sandra, If you're planning to dress her in a high fashion bustle I'd like to see her in the brunette wig. The blonde tresses are more child-like but she does seem to be a "young lady" to me. My hope is one day to take my historic costuming one step laterally and dress some antique procelain dolls for myself, I'm saving trims and fabric till then.
Hooroo,
Christine in sunny Sydney Australia
She's gorgeous, really. The red is my fave.
I think the blonde wig softens her features and gives her more of a peaches and cream completion ... I cant wait to see what you pick and her all "dolled" up LOL
LOTS OF HUGS

Oh yes, the red hair for sure!!!! I love the doll.....of course, cause I love all dolls.....but what a beautiful face! I know how hard it is to paint those eyebrows!!!!
Her little kissy lips are fabulous!!!
How I wish I could still make dolls....miss that part of it!
She will be stunning no matter what wig you decide on!
Hugs,

I like the brunette wig best; I think it makes her look old-fashioned yet classy!!
She is so Gorgeous! I think for this elegant lady and her amazing blue eyes the dusky hued Brunette look would be perfect.
Nancy
I think the red hair is beautiful. I've always loved the combination of blue eyes and red hair. Just lovely, Sandra!
Your doll is looking so fabulous! I really like the brunette look the best. I think it suits what you plan to dress her in, as well.
Hi Sandra
How have you been Sweetie? Good I hope, I am well. Getting ready for Christmas as everyone else. Just popped over to say hi. Your lady is beautiful as are you.
Love the first mohair wig!
Many Blessings
Rebecca
Love, love, love the red! She's beautiful with any though.
ohmygod, gorgeous! i vote brunette.
Sandra....I think I have to choose the red! It is an exceptional hair color and one that I have always wanted for myself. Since you are making a period doll that is already exceptional....well...red is it.
With all that said, whatever color the doll tells you that she wants....will be the perfect color for her!
Thank you for wanting my advice!
Off with her hair, I say! I like her best with NO HAIR. I think it accentuates every beautiful detail on her face. I would like to see how she looks with just a hat! But if it competes with those cheeks, she could just hold it in her delicate hands.
As a red-head, I'd have to go with RED!! There are many blondes, black, brown haired dolls, red isn't that common. Let the dear doll stand out with fiery red hair. :)
Such a lovely face!
I prefer the brunette wig. I think it accents her coloring wonderfully - but I'm partial to the dark hair, light eyes combo...
What an artist for sure to make a doll out of a glove. I love the red hair and the sweet little hat.
That was so much fun to see your pictures on the different steps.
Merry Christmas
Janice
I love the ginger red haired beauty! The painting is also very lovely!
Sandy
Wow, your doll is beautiful. I like the fiery red hair the best.
I must be that I have brunette hair and all of my life I have wanted that type of hair but don't have the gut to color it. :)
Thank you for the opportunity and keep up the good work.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
The brunette wig for sure! You've done a wonderful job so far...can't wait to see the end product!
I knew a girl like her once!
Such a beautiful doll ~ my daughter has gorgeous auburn hair (the same colour you've shown) so that would be my choice :-)
Oh So beautiful is the firey red!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see her finished, such a lovely doll!!!!!
Hugs,
Jackie
Oh your doll is just beautiful. I love her beautiful face. I love the red wig, it just makes her glow. She is going to be so beautiful. I can't wait to see her outfit. Thank you for sharing. I love your beautiful print and would love to win it, thank you so much for the opportunity. Happy Holiday's. Terri
do I have to be a creative woman to enter?!?! ;-)
The red hair gives her spirit and gumption - love it!
This doll's face is exquisite!
What a hard decision. She looks beautiful already though. I'd go for the brunette.
Love the racy red. She is BEAUTIFUL. Happy Day Sandy
Dear Sandra,
In spite of the drawing where you made a very red color, it seems to me all the same that it is the Red tint which goes best in his eyes of china. I thus choose the red wig!
And I look forward to seeing it finished.
Spend of very good Christmas. In very soon.
Fine Bessot
Rosy blush cheeks and red hair - a sublime combination!
~Pamela
The red, absolutely! It gives her personality immediately. Oh, and that bonnet, to die for. She is going to be stunning.
Happy Holidays to you.
xox Rella
She needs to be a fiery redhead!!
I wish that I could put some stuffing in MY backside. It seems to have disappeared. Oh wait a minute. I found it. It has wandered around to the front. LOL
Happy creating,
Teresa
Definitely the fiery strawberry red!
I love the brunette! Can't wait to see her finished!
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas
Heidi
Oh a FG fashion, I think it's between the brunette or the blonde? But her brows match perfectly with the
blonde. She is gorgeous Sandra and Merry Christmas
I like the firts one best!
It has ben such a while since my last visit! Oh my...so many wonderful places to visit.
Hope you are weell!
:)
She's sweet as a brunette, but Absolutely Fabulous as a redhead! It really shows off her personality.
In my teens, I made a doll out of an old pair of leather gloves, so fun to see you using the same material!
~Marilee
I like the red hair - it really sets off her blue eyes.
I like the red hair best. It really sets off her blue eyes.
I know it's too late for the contest, but I had to put in my vote for the redhead. :)
Happy New Year Sandra! Your doll is beautiful...I love the brown wig... karen....
Sandra, please pop over to my blog today to see how I embellished my canvas that I won from you last year! I hope you like it; I honored her with some of my best!
