Turkey Trot, Austin, Texas 2013

My husband David and I participated in this years Turkey Trot 5 mile race through downtown Austin, Texas on Thanksgiving morning.
Heading for the starting corral, it was 34 degrees and my very first race ever! 5 miles at a steady 51:03. Truly, I felt like I won, it was so exhilarating!
My gorgeous, handsome husband. I told him to go ahead because he runs much faster than me…. but he stayed with me and came in at 51:02 minutes, he could have ran the 5 mile stretch at least 15 minutes faster!
There were people running in costumes of all things Thanksgiving.
 A pilgram and his gal.
And after the race was over they had sweet treats of cut up oranges, bananas and bagels too! It was such a funny thing to see a giant (tired) turkey sucking on an orange!
There were even a few Santa Claus's!!! Can't wait till next year, I'm gonna work really hard to beat my time!!!

Antique Needlework & Facebook!

Look through the refections to what lies behind the wavy glass.
I found this piece of antique needlework at an Italian flea market several years ago...
It was folded up and tucked in the corner of a small, banged up, old wooden box.
I wonder who created it? And if they worked on it by candle light… and how it wound up forgotten and crushed...
I notice the amazingly vibrant colors of the silk threads, and the wonderful floral boarder that curls and rises around her.
Its a quite large piece that sits on my nightstand next to my bed… I have tea with her every night before I go to sleep.
There is so much detail, and such teeny, tiny stitches! It must have taken forever to finish. You can see every braid and lovely shimmering highlights of each and every sausage curl.
Her blushed cheeks are so delicate it almost looks as though its been painted on, she has a small beauty mark beneath her eye, see there just below her eyelash? And it looks to me like she is wearing a malachite necklace too. It such a wonderful piece, and a beautiful way to start each morning and end each day! Hope you are enjoying the cold weather and having fun preparing for the holidays!
Oh and BTW I just joined Facebook, Yes, I know I must be the very last Human being on earth to join! Pop on over and say Hello!  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sandra-Evertson/502338376546983?sk=wall&filter=2

Last Night….

It's starting to get chilly here. Last night I looked up at the moon… squinted my eyes
and this is what I saw looking back at me! A winter moon is blowing in…..

Happy Handmade Halloween!

Instead of buying ready made Halloween masks this year I thought I would create some fun
 handmade ones….
You only need a few supplies….
and they are probably things you keep stocked up on at home.
Start off with some interesting antique photographs, altered with mysterious little black construction paper masks. Enlarged on a photo copier….
Use crepe paper, card stock, wooden craft sticks, glue, sparkly pipe cleaners, tinsel and whatever else you might have stashed away to decorate your paper paddle masks.
Finally finish them off with a bit of chalk paints added to cheeks and to liven up their dull wardrobe. Lastly don't forget to poke holes where your eyes will go so that there won't be any stumbling around in the dark!
Here's to a Happy, Healthy and perfectly Haunted Halloween!!!!!

Cat Eyes & living with Richard Parker

What wonders lie behind those wide, round, ever so pale green eyes?
I'm certain they are mysterious, unknowable, soul searching thoughts...
She sits motionless, as though in a trance.
Hypnotized by something juuussst out of reach,
something my eyes are not privy to.
Sometimes I can see the sun and clouds convexly reflected there,
and it takes my breath away.....
My girl Alex aka Richard Parker sends out swirling sweet October greetings to you all!
Richard Parker is my fierce companion......  (reference: Life of Pi)  ^..^   I suppose, now that I think about it... I've always wanted to live with a wild animal and now I do!
